Veterans Appreciation Day

Veterans Appreciation Day is from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Wilder Museum of Warren County History, 51 Erie Ave., Irvine.

Enjoy the museum’s military wing and refreshments. $5 per person, $1 per student.

Veterans and members are admitted free.

Hill & Dale meeting

The next meeting of the Hill & Dale Garden Club will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the Wiltsie Church. Sally Asbury will be the speaker on “Putting our Gardens to Bed.” There will also be a “Brown Bag Auction,” and each member is asked to bring a wrapped gift for this.

Opioid Summit

Our nation and communities are facing an opioid epidemic and other addiction-related issues. We need to be working for solutions to these problems. You are invited to join in a learning experience and discussion from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. November 3 at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street in Warren, in Founders Hall on the 2nd Floor.

At this Opioid Summit, you will hear from the Warren County Sheriff and District Attorney along with representatives from three ministry organizations that are working daily to help people and families caught in the struggle of drug addictions, and you will have the opportunity to ask them questions about how to best help people before, during and after dealing with addictions.

There is no fee to attend this event and lunch is included.

Advance registration is required due to limited seating. RSVP is needed by October 29. Sign-up by calling (814) 945-6975 or by emailing kane.office@wpaumc.org.

Alzheimer’s program

An education program, “Effective Communication Strategies,” for families facing Alzheimer’s disease will be presented at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Warren Higher Ed Council Office on the State Hospital Grounds.

Jill Curtis, Education and Outreach Coordinator from the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter in Erie, will be the presenter. This class is free and open to all interested parties, including caregivers, families, and members of support groups. It will cover such topics as the communication changes during the course of the disease and identifying strategies to communicate better and in meaningful ways at each stage of the disease.

Military Share

Military Share will be at the Warren VA Clinic on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The Produce Express Program of Second Harvest Food Bank is designed to “provide fresh, nutritious foods for families with at least one member who has served in the armed forces.” To register, veterans or family members may sign up at the clinic or by calling Second Harvest at (814) 459-3663 ext. 103, or the clinic at (814) 860-2780.
