Girls Scout Spirit Week is this week

The Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania will kick off the new Girl Scout year with Spirit Week.

During the week of Sept. 23 through 29, “Girl Scouts will be sharing their passion and spirit for Girl Scouting with friends, classmates, and their communities,” according to a release from Public Relations and Marketing Associate Stefanie Marshall. “With a schedule of daily activities, parents, volunteers, and girls will be coming together as one Girl Scout community to celebrate the impact the organization has had in their communities and in their lives.”

A meeting for prospective new Scouts and families will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Eisenhower Elementary School. Those with questions may contact Jennifer Domowicz at jdomowicz@gswpa.org.

As new members and volunteers join the program this week, the organization plans to publicly celebrate.

“The difference that Girl Scouts makes in a girl’s life is proven,” according to Marshall. “According to a 2017 study from the Girl Scout Research Institute, Girl Scouts are more likely than non-Girl Scouts to:

¯ have a strong sense of self (80 percent to 68 percent);

¯ not only seek challenges, but learn from setbacks (62 percent to 42 percent); and

¯ have positive values (75 percent to 59 percent).”

“Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania provides nearly 21,000 girls from 27 counties and many different backgrounds and beliefs with the resources to become tomorrow’s leaders,” Marshall said. “And, all of this is made possible thanks to the dedication of more than 11,000 adult members, 100 full-time staff, 20 board members, and countless supporters, all believing in the power of girls.”

“Girl Scouts build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place,” she said.
