Lottsville Community Memorial unveiled

The dedication of the Lottsville Community Memorial was held on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Over a hundred residents and former residents joined special guests for the 10:30 a.m. dedication of the memorial, located in front of the Lottsville Cemetery.

Co-chairs of the Lottsville Heritage Committee, Ruth Ann DeVore and Donald Martin, welcomed everyone to the event, which is the culmination of two-and-a-half years of planning, designing and fundraising for the project.

Following the National Anthem, Boy Scouts Garrett and Seth Jensen and Owen Martin led in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by the invocation by Rev. Larry Little. Brief remarks were made by State Senator Scott Hutchinson, State Representative Kathy Rapp, Julie Slomski, Director of the Governor’s Northwest Regional Office, Ben Kafferlin, Chairman of the Warren County Commissioners, Kevin Peterson, Chairman of the Freehold Township Supervisors and Curt Crandall, Memorial Contractor for the project.

The Honor Guard and the playing of taps were provided by the AMVETS, Post 50, Sugar Grove.

The memorial consists of three large tablets, the middle one honoring the founder of Lottsville in 1815, Harmones Lott. The two tablets on either side honor the deceased war veterans of Freehold Township from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War.

In the small plaza in front of the tablets, there are engraved bricks and granite blocks purchased by residents and former residents of Lottsville.

Two granite benches also grace the plaza.

Behind the memorials are three flagpoles, flying the American flag, the Pennsylvania flag, and a Veterans Flag honoring all five branches of the United States military.
