Hearing aid found

A hearing aid was turned in to the City of Warren Police Department on Friday, Sept. 21. It had been found in the downtown area. Contact the City of Warren Police at (814) 723-2700 Monday through Friday until 4:30 p.m. to claim.

Class breakfast

The men of the Warren High School class of 1951 will meet for breakfast at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Perkins.

Cemetery flowers

The Barnes Cemetery Association requests that all artificial summer flowers be removed from lots by October 10 for fall cleanup. After that, they will be discarded.

Chicken BBQ

A chicken BBQ is being held at the ballfield in Chandlers Valley, on Jackson Run Road, or in case of inclement weather at the Chandlers Valley United Methodist Church, from 3 p.m. until gone on Saturday, Sept. 29. The meal includes a half chicken, choice of macaroni or potato salad, baked beans, roll, brownie, sundaes, and beverage for $10. All are invited to come to help the CVUMC.

Application deadline

The Warren County Conservation District Dirt, Gravel & Low Volume Road application deadline has been extended to November 2, 2018. Stream Dynamics & Erosion Workshop

The Warren County Conservation District will be hosting a free Dirt & Gravel Roads & Bank Stabilization Tour on Thursday, Oct. 25. The tour will begin at the Warren County Conservation District Office, 4000 Conewango Ave., Warren, PA 16365. Please dress for the weather.

Registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. that day. There will be an introduction, DGLVR updates, and stream dynamics presentations from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. A coach bus will be loaded between 9:45 and 10 a.m. and sites will be toured from 10 a.m. to noon.

A catered lunch of pulled pork and beef on weck sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, broccoli and cauliflower salad, chips, and cookies will be held between noon and 1 p.m. (menu subject to change).

The bus will be loaded between 1 and 1:15 p.m. to tour more sites from 1:15 to 4 p.m.

The bus will return to the Conservation District between 4 and 4:30 p.m.

You will learn about the streambank stabilization, techniques for installing stream crossings, and filling the road profiles.

Space is limited, so registration is required. Register by Friday, Oct. 12, calling 726-1441, Ext 1.

Venango County history

The Venango County Historical Society, 307 S. Park St, Franklin, is holding a Giant Book Fair, Oct. 4-7, as part of the city’s Applefest. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

PEAL Training

Parent Education Advocacy Leadership (PEAL) Training in Presuming Competence: Fostering High Expectations will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Beacon Light Recovery Center, 1885 Market St., Warren.

Families will learn about the principles of presuming competence — empowering students, families, and communities to believe that all children can reach their maximum potential.

Training objectives:

Define “Presuming Competence” within the home, school, and community

Identify how presuming competence can broaden opportunities in all settings

‘Bringing the Bible to Life’

The Cable Hollow Church, 3157 Cable Hollow Road, Russell, is hosting a “Bringing the Bible to Life” (BBL) seminar on October 5 and 6. This is an event designed for the whole family that offers about 6+ hours of unique and exciting multi-media teaching of the physical settings of the Bible in the context of the land of Israel. Taught as a “pictorial Bible Study,” this BBL seminar brings the Bible to life in “3-D color!”

Each BBL seminar covers the following areas of teaching:

1. Session I: Introduction — “Physical Settings of the Bible”;

1. Session II: “Connecting the Dots” — Geography of Israel;

2. Session III: Archaeology & the Bible;

3. Session IV: The Hebraic Background of the Life and Ministry of Jesus;

4. Session V: Jerusalem in the Old Testament;

5. Session VI: Jerusalem in the Days of Jesus;

6. Session VII: Manners & Customs of the Bible.

The seminar is presented by Dr. John DeLancey. He is a pastor, author and national speaker who serves as the Director of Biblical Israel Ministries & Tours (www.biblicalisraeltours.com). He has studied one year in Jerusalem and has led 61 Israel trips to date. He lives in the Pittsburgh area and is married with three children.

The specific times of the BBL seminar are as follows:

Friday, October 5 – 6:30 to 9 p.m.;

Saturday, October 6 – 9 to 1 p.m.;

Sunday, October 7 – Preaching in the morning service at 9:30 a.m.

The BBL seminar is a free event and open to the public.

LeMeur Family Foundation Scholarships

Henry LeMeur, Jr., President, and CEO of Superior Tire & Rubber Corp., recently presented three individual $2,500 LeMeur Family Foundation Scholarships and a $7,500 grant to the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College. Recipients of the $2,500 scholarships for Superior Tire employee family members are Caitlin Reitz, Laura Lucks, and Dakota Hetrick. Dr. Joseph T. Nairn, founding President of the Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, accepted a $7,500 contribution to the college for tuition assistance for Superior Tire employees.

Oviatts Art Show

Saturday, Sept. 22, and Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 1 to 5 p.m., are the last times to view the Oviatts’ Art Show at Wilder Museum.

On display since August 30, the Oviatts’ Art Show features the work of the talented duo of Keith and Joanne Oviatt from Pittsfield, who has been involved in a wide variety of the arts for decades. Keith, a master of woodwork and photography, and Joanne, an accomplished painter, and sculptor exhibit a variety of their works at the museum. The art show features an assortment of media on display including photographs taken around the world, intricate carvings created from gourds, and stunning paintings of varying sizes.
