Class to lunch

The Warren High School class of 1960 will have lunch at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Docksiders. Class members, mates, and friends are invited. Need a ride, call Jim at (814) 489-5095.

Fire police needed

Fire Police are needed to help at the Sheffield Fire Department parade on Saturday, Aug. 18; meet at the Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. All help will be greatly appreciated. Help will also be appreciated Saturday night for the Fireworks.

Penn York Campers

The Penn York Campers will be at Leisure Lake Campground in Corry Aug. 17 and 18. They will have an informal square dance on Friday, from 7 to 9 p.m., and a formal dance Saturday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

All area square dancers are welcome. Don Yosten will be the caller. Penn York is a member of the National Square Dance Campers Association, Inc.

The Red Hat Society Purple Majesties will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Snuffy’s.

Penn York Square Dancers

The Penn York Square Dancers will be at Leisure Lake, Corry, on August 18. They will a formal dance on Saturday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Don Yosten will be the caller. All square dancers in the area are welcome.

Chapman State Park programs

Here are events scheduled at Chapman State Park the weekend of Aug. 24 to 26:

Friday, Aug. 24, from 7 to 8 p.m. —“BUG WALK” – Go in search of insects along this short walk. We will look into their habitat by searching under logs and leaf litter. Bug boxes and hand lenses will be available for use (Amphitheater);

Friday, Aug. 24, from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m. — “MOVIE NIGHT: BEARS”– As presented in IMAX Theaters – Discover the world of bears and experience a fascinating encounter with one of nature’s most inspiring and misunderstood creatures (Amphitheater or pavilion 4 in case of rain);

Sunday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m. — CHAPEL SERVICE-NON DENOMINATIONAL (Amphitheater or pavilion 4 in case of rain).

Walk to End Alzheimer’s Committee meeting

The August planning meeting for the 2018 Warren Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the meeting room of the LIFE-NW PA Office (located next to Darling’s Pharmacy in the former Quality Markets building), 1885 Market St., in North Warren. Lunch will be provided.

There is still plenty of time to form a team, join a team, or volunteer to help the day of the Walk, Sept. 29, at Betts Park.

All returning team captains and prospective team members, as well as individual walkers, may sign up at this meeting. Fundraising tips will be offered and specific logistics of the Walk will be discussed. Sponsors, former committee members, volunteers, and any other interested persons are invited to attend.

Parenting classes

Warren County Children and Youth Services offer a variety of parenting classes in September and October. All classes are free, and pre-registration is required. Pre-registration can be completed by contacting the parent educator at (814) 726-2100, extension 8211. Classes are held in the Forest-Warren Human Services building, 285 Hospital Drive, North Warren.

Forest-Warren Human Services also offers specialized classes on an “as requested basis” covering the topics of Raising Grandchildren; Dad’s Class; The Babycare Workshop; and Managing Anger in the Family.

Paws closed Tuesday

Paws Along the River Humane Society will be closed for maintenance on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
