Photo submitted to Times Observer Maya Philhower is the winner of the scholastic prize basket from the Warren Public Library’s Scholastic Book Fair. Maya won lots of books plus a variety of other goodies. The fair was held July 9 to 14. The Children’s Department benefits from proceeds earned at the fair.

Basket raffle for Conewango K-9

Styles Unlimited, 218 Pennsylvania Ave. East, will be having a basket raffle for the Conewango K-9 unit until Aug. 2. Tickets are $1 or three tickets for $2.

Class to lunch

The Warren Area High School class of 1960 will have lunch at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. Lunch will be at Bob’s Trading Post. All members, mates, and friends are invited.

The Warren Area High School class of 1964 will meet for lunch at noon Monday, July 23, at Cable Hollow Golf Course. All members of the class and their spouses or significant others are welcome.

Intro to Backpacking

An Introduction to Backpacking course will be held inside Chapman State Park from 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, to noon Sunday, Aug. 5.

The program will feature an introduction into the planning process, what gear you’ll need, how to pack and what to do along the trail while hiking, setting up camp and meal preparations. Equipment and all meals will be provided. Preference will be given to first-time participants. Registration is required by Thursday, July 26.

The meeting location is at the Environmental Learning Center, Chapman State Park, 4790 Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon, Pa. 16313. The cost is $20 per person.

Hill N Dale meeting

The Hill N Dale Garden Club meeting at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, will be held at the Akeley United Methodist Church. The program will be on Decoration Flower Pots by Kellie from Lowes. If you are planning to attend the August meeting at the Audubon, bring $10 for the catered lunch.
