Photos submitted to Times Observer AMVETS Post #50 and Sugar Grove American Legion Post #758 will host a Memorial Day ceremony in the Sugar Grove Town Park at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, to remember those that have lost their lives for this great country. Please join the community for the remembrance — 85 American flags have been placed throughout the Borough of Sugar Grove by AMVETS Post #50 and the assistance of younger community members and Sons of AMVETS. Hunter and Tucker Gourley hand off American flags to their father Todd, to be placed in the brackets. The boys, grandfather Elmer served in the United States Army and their uncle Zach currently serves in the United States Air Force in Alaska. Silhouettes of all branches of the service have been placed in the Sugar Grove Borough Town Parking lot. Paul Tutmaher and Sandy Kiedrowski created and painted the silhouettes. Paul’s brothers served in WWII and Sandy is an Air Force veteran.

Hundredth Annual Banquet

The Lander High School Alumni Association hundredth annual banquet will be held on Saturday, June 9 at the Lander Parish House at noon. Come and bring a friend. Luncheon by Catering Plus. John Check Music Festival

The John Jeck Scholarship Music Festival will take place Sunday, May 26 at 7 p.m. at Beaty Auditorium. The ACA Youth Connection will present their spring show “On the Big Screen.” There will be special presentations performed by a number of these very talented young people. Also performing will be members of the Warren Music Conservatory and the WAHS Jazz Band. Admission is free to the public and any donations will benefit the John Check Scholarship, which is administered through the Community Foundation of Warren County. This scholarship is available to any WCSD senior planning on majoring in education, music, or the performing arts.

Pine Grove Days

There will be Pine Grove Days events all weekend.

The events kick off with a vendor fair and kids zone Saturday on Main Street and the Run for ROAR (Revitalization of Akeley and Russell) 5k run/walk.

The Liberty Street Bridge dedication will be held at 11 a.m. with the Pine Grove Days Parade to begin right after, proceeding from the bridge to Main Street and State Street.

There will be a cornhole tournament at Larimer Park starting at 2 p.m. Registration opens at 1 p.m.

Music for Dancin’ on Main Street from 7 to 9 p.m. will be provided by Russell Roller Rink.

And, at dusk, there will be fireworks by Gibson Fireworks at Larimer Park.

Sunday’s events include a community picnic at 5 p.m. and worship service at 6 p.m., both at Larimer Park.

On Monday, the Memorial Day Service will be held at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, or, in case of rain, at Praise Fellowship Church.

Farmers Market Vouchers

Farmers Market Vouchers will be available to Warren/Forest County residents, age 60 and older who meet income guidelines. Bring a copy of a POA form with you if you are signing for a participant. The voucher is worth $20. ID is required. Income guidelines: Single $22,459, Couple $30,451.

Class breakfast

The WAHS Class of 1962 will meet for breakfast at Perkins at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 30. All classmates are welcome.

Voter registration

The League of Women Voters of Warren County will be at the Pine Grove Day across from the church, beginning at 11 a.m. through early afternoon, to help persons become registered to vote in future elections.

Memorial Day observance

The annual Warren County Memorial Day program, presented by The Chief Cornplanter American Legion Post 135, will be held Monday, May 28, beginning at 10 a.m., at the steps of the Warren County Courthouse, 4th and Market Sts.

State Representative Kathy L. Rapp will be the keynote speaker. Warren City Mayor Maurice J. Cashman will also speak as well as deliver a Proclamation.

The John Gertsch Memorial Home Post #77 will perform the Firing Squad duties.

Post Adjutant Patrick Ross will be Master of Ceremonies.

Class reunion

The Youngsville Class of 1988 would like to announce its 30-year class reunion to be held July 7 at Greg Leofsky’s Farm in Garland, starting at 4 p.m. There will be a catered dinner, DJ and camping to follow.
