Jamestown Business College has announced the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the Winter 2017 term. To qualify for the President’s List a student must earn a 3.90 – 4.00 grade point average for a term. To qualify for the Dean’s List a student must earn a 3.60 – 3.89 grade point average for a term. Jessica Robbins of Warren has received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The university held its 64th commencement ceremony at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 10 to celebrate the graduation of about 15,000 from across the country.
At commencement, the online, nonprofit university recognized 8,839 undergraduates and 6,117 graduates who have completed their degrees in business, information technology, K-12 teacher education, and healthcare, including nursing. More than 1,100 new alumni participated in the ceremony. Graduates who were not able to attend the ceremony were able to watch the event via live video stream on WGU’s website.
Registration for the Kinzua Knit-Away runs until March 10. The event will take place on April 6 and 7 at the First United Methodist Church at 200 Market Street in Warren. The Kinzua Knit-Away is a conference of fiber arts classes and vendors.
On Friday, April 6, Kinzua Knit-Away will kick off the event with a lecture from 6 to 8 p.m. with Cathy Briscoe, who will be talking about “Yarn Substitution.” During the evening, door prizes will be given out and refreshments will be served. Registration is required for this session.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, with classes, a lunch lecture for those who sign-up in advance, and the Vendor Marketplace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Linda Voss Plummer will be the lunch-time lecturer speaking on the topic of “Designing Stash.” This will be a topic for all of you fiber artists who have a stash of yarn left over from projects and don’t know what to do with it.
Door prizes will be available for participants that are registered.
A soup and sandwich lunch will be available for $10 for those who pre-register, but a few lunches will be available at the door. If you can not spend the whole day, Kinzua Knit-Away encourages you to come and visit the Vendor Marketplace for an entrance fee of $3.
The grand prize of the day will be raffled off at 4:45 p.m. April 7 for all those who attend the Marketplace.

Fire police to meet
Warren County Fire Police will meet at Starbrick Fire Hall on Sunday, March 4, at 9 a.m. Reminder: PA Fire Police dues are due.
A recognition dinner will be April 8 at Buccardo’s Restaurant in Tidioute at 2 p.m. If going, turn in reservations to the committee by March 19.
A spring auction at Sheffield Fire Hall will be held on Satursday, March 10. Doors open at noon and it starts at 1 p.m. Many items, including food items and fishing equipment, will be available.
Over 100 participants filled the Slater Room of the Warren Public Library on Monday, Feb. 5, for a competitive and fun evening of trivia. Each team’s knowledge was tested in some of the following categories: Books of the Bible, Dolls, Social Media, Hearts & Diamonds, the Old West and others.
The February event was sponsored by the First Lutheran Church of Warren with each member of the winning team receiving a $10 Tim Horton’s gift card. The participants and Library Trivia Committee enjoyed hot pretzels, dip, and soda pop contributed and served by members of the First Lutheran Church.
The Warren Public Library’s next Trivia Night will be held on Monday, April 2, at 6 p.m. Most of the team slots are presently filled but there is room for individuals on some teams.
