WAHS grad has art exhibit
A Warren Area High School graduate will have her work exhibited at Ashland University.
Danielle Smith, daughter of Kerwin and Lorraine Smith, a WAHS graduate, will be finishing her Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Art-Graphic Design with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Her work will be on display in Ashland University’s Colburn Gallery for the 2017 Senior Art Exhibition starting Thursday, Nov. 30, with an opening reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
“While the 2017 Senior Art Exhibition provides the capstone experience for graduating art majors, it represents more than just students’ studio art experiences.” said Colburn Gallery director Cynthia Petry, “For these students of liberal arts, the exhibition is the culmination of their undergraduate careers at Ashland University.”
Smith’s work has been exhibited in the Juried Student Art Exhibition numerous times and was awarded the Alumni “Wink” Award and the Dean’s Award. Smith also was awarded sophomore and junior academic honors on behalf of the art department, according to a press release.
Smith served as the Art Club president during the 2016-2017 school year, and has been an active member of the art community on campus. She was also involved in religious life during her time at Ashland and served as a well-student leader. Smith was the graphic design intern at Bookmasters in Ashland during her junior year, where she assisted in catalogue design. She also completed web design internships and hopes to secure a graphic design position in the Cleveland area after graduation.
