‘Jakes Witch’ event set for October 6-7

The Blair Witch is so 1999.

This year, it’s all about the Jakes Witch Project.

The inaugural autumn mountain biking festival will be held at Jakes Rocks and Kinzua Beach on Oct. 6 and 7. The goal for the two day event, said Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry Director of Operations John Papalia, “is to highlight the outdoor recreational opportunities that we have here in Warren County,” including the trails at Jakes Rocks.

Centering the event between Kinzua Beach and Jakes Rocks, said Papalia, offered a “focus on a number of outdoor activities,” including mountain biking, hiking, road biking, ATV riding, and more.

The name, said Papalia, came from planning committee member and local mountain biker Scott Elmquist, who wanted to bring a Halloween, autumnal theme to the event.

The hope is for the event to be well enough attended to make it an annual event, said Papalia, and to see it grow each year with more vendors and more attendees as the years go on.

Vendors will be situated along with food and music at Kinzua Beach with shuttles running to the trail and from the trail head parking area, for those who want to hike or ride the trails.

The event, said Papalia, is geared toward a wide variety of people, with something for everyone to enjoy. Mountain bikers, those who enjoy the outdoors, hikers, and other outdoor enthusiasts should find something of interest at the Jakes Witch event, he said.

“If you are someone who is just curious and want to learn more about the area, the trails and various opportunities in the area, then this is the perfect event to do that,” Papalia said.
