Hooktown garage sale is expanding this year

The fourth annual Hooktown Holidays garage sale is going to be the biggest yet.

In addition to the 1201 Conewango Ave. address from previous years, this year’s event will expand to the 1235 Conewango G.G. Greene Estate. The sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23.

“This is the largest it’s ever been. The donations from the community have been overwhelming,” Hooktown Holidays founder Terry Pearson said. “We have new items, some still in the packages, in addition to our garage sale items.”

“We have seven storage facilities full of donated items,” he said. The number is eight if one includes Pearson’s garage.

The items include furniture, sporting goods, toys for children of all ages, and small appliances. Pearson said there will be vendors selling hot food on site.

Parking is available across the street, Pearson said.

“This is our major fund-raiser,” Pearson said.

Funds raised at the sale go back to the Hooktown Holiday’s charities: Second Harvest Food Bank Backpack Program, Salvation Army, the Sharing Place, St. Joseph Soup Kitchen, Area Agency on Aging, Trinity Hot Meals Program, Veterans Emergency Help Fund, Warren County School Food Pantries, Produce Express, and others.

The garage sale is not just a place to buy things. “It’s like a coming together of the community to support a mission they believe in,” Pearson said. “Hooktown Holidays mission is to provide nutritious food, warm clothing, and other necessities of life for the children of Warren County and families in need.”

“We’re out there every single day fulfilling that mission, but it’s not about Hooktown,” he said. “The people have been phenomenal. This revolves around the citizens of this community.”
