Concert Association hosts Karkowska sister concert on March 18 Anna and Kasha.

On Saturday, March 18, the Warren Concert Association will host the Karkowska Sisters Duo at the First Presbyterian Church at Market Street and Third Avenue in Warren. The performance of these Polish musicians will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Anna Karkowska, violinist, and pianist Kasha Karkowska, have an international following from performances at concert halls in Mexico, Poland, and America, at festivals, on public television, and at schools around the United States.

Their stage banter, which entertains and informs, is a reflection of their musical partnership which is so close the two instruments seem at times to be controlled by one mind. One of their pieces, Souvenir d’Amerique, with program billing as “American Variations,” is a set of brilliant variations on “Yankee Doodle” that was brought back to listening audiences by Itzhak Perlman in the 1970s.

Anna possesses a formidable technique, taking on a treacherous section of “Yankee Doodle” played in harmonics. She touches the strings carefully and lightly to make them ring out in high, bell-like tones. Her renditions can be like a series of perfect diamonds. Music critics from Chicago to Mexico to Poland say both sisters are destined for stardom and that their listeners have the opportunity to savor performances of the highest artistic levels.

Kasha makes her own impact known on the piano, deftly shading her dynamics from almost inaudible to powerfully grand. She comes across as the chattier of the two sisters and has a sunny manner of playing. But, there are times when she follows her younger sister fearlessly when Anna is breathtakingly introspective as she closes Gershwin’s “Summertime.”

On Saturday, concertgoers will be treated to musical expression and technical precison as Anna and Kasha Karkowska demonstrate their love for their instruments and the music they perform. The Warren Concert Association urges you to treat yourself to what has been called “the most beautiful and spellbinding piano-violin duet ever” and, as a bonus, to enjoy the repartee of the Sisters Karkowska.

Individual tickets will be available at the church one hour prior to the 7:30 p.m.concert in the hallway adjacent to the church’s Third Avenue entrance. Call (814) 723-6505 or email for additional details.
