VITA — Volunteer Tax Assistance Program reminder
IRS-trained volunteers can help beginning Feb. 6
The Allegheny Volunteer Alliance at the ACC would like to remind the residents of Warren and Forest Counties that IRS trained volunteers can help them if they are low income, disabled or elderly to fill out and file at no cost their Federal, State and Local tax forms, as well as Rent & Property Rebates. This local corps of volunteers has won statewide awards from the IRS for the number of returns that they file as well as the quality of their returns that they process.
The following is the schedule of tax preparation sites throughout the region beginning Feb. 6:
Allegheny Community Center — Monday thru Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily beginning Feb. 6, call the ACC at 230-7222 for appointment;
Marienville Library- Thursdays, Feb. 14, 21, 28 and March 7, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., call the ACC at 230-7222 for appointment;
Endeavor Senior Center — Tuesdays, March 14, 21 and 28, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., call the center at 463-7774 for appointment;
Tidioute Senior Center – Thursdays, every other week beginning Feb. 16. Call center, now located in the Tidioute Towers, at 484-3020 for appointment;
Tionesta Library — Thursdays, 1-5 p.m., every other week beginning Feb. 9, call the ACC at 230-7222 for appointment;
Sheffield Hospitality Center – Fridays, Feb. 24, March 3, 17, 31 and April 7, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., call the center at 968-5667 for appointment;
Youngsville Borough – Tuesdays, beginning Feb. 7, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., call the ACC at 230-7222 for appointment;
There are several documents that are needed to process your return:
— Last year’s return;
— Two forms of ID (a valid Photo ID for the tax payer is necessary and SS cards for the tax payers and any dependents are also required);
— Proof of insurance (form 1095A) required if you are under the age of 65;
— Income statements including investments;
— Property tax receipt or completed Rent Rebate Certificate by landlord to file a PA Rebate.
The IRS requires that both spouses must be present to file their joint return this year. The income limit to be eligible to receive this free tax service is $65,000 for a joint return.
All centers within Warren and Forest Counties are closed for holidays and for school cancellations. Please call to cancel appointments.
