Outdoor and Travel Show takes on the name of a ‘great advocate of the sport we all love,’ in memory of Darin Freeborough

The Warren County Outdoor and Travel Show has changed its name.

In honor of Darin Freeborough, the show will now be known as the Dinar Freeborough Memorial Outdoor Show. One of the original planning committee members for the outdoor show, which has been held in Warren since 2009, Darin passed away unexpectedly in December 2016. “An avid hunter, trapper, fisherman, outdoorsman, teacher, and guide,”according to Darin’s obituary, he will be honored at this year’s outdoor show with a memorial and a silent auction, with all proceeds to benefit the Hunt of a Lifetime Foundation.

“Darin was a great advocate for the sport we all love,” said John Papalia, Director of Operations and Tourism at the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry.

Papalia said that this year’s show is “shaping up to better than ever.” He said that 85 vendors are already slated to be on hand at the show, with something for everyone and representing all aspects of the outdoor and travel world. Hunters, fishermen, trappers, those who enjoy four wheeling, boating, wildlife art, taxidermy, crafts, and local food and beverage can all find something of interest at the show, Papalia said. “As always,” he added, there will be an abundance of food…including snacks such as kettle corn, candies, doughnuts, and barbeque.”

Layout of the show will be similar to years past, Papalia said, and as always the show is free to attend. “I think the outdoor show has become one of the events the community looks forward to each year. It’s a nice way to break up the winter and it gives the community an opportunity to see many of the opportunities offered here in Warren County but also across the region.” As for keeping the show free, Papalia said that doing so “creates a wonderful opportunity for people to bring out their families and enjoy a fun-filled weekend at no cost, unless of course they choose to spend some money with the vendors.”

Papalia said that vendors are coming from as far afield as Pittsburgh, Pa.

This year’s outdoor show will run Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 14 and 15. It will be held at various storefronts and throughout the concourse of the Warren Mall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Saturday at 2 p.m. there will be a Makeup For A Cause auction event to benefit A Safe Place in Warren.
