Photo submitted to Times Observer Piper VanOrd will speak on her recent trip to Standing Rock, N.D., where more than 300 indigenous nations from all over the world have gathered to protest the Dakota Access Pipe Line (DAPL), which they believe threatens the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe water and sacred lands. While at Standing Rock, Warren’s Piper, Sue Wohlers and Jennifer Lynds delivered a van load of food and supplies donated by local supporters, and took part in a prayer ceremony at Sacred Stone Camp. Christmas Auction

Grand Valley Volunteer Fire Department’s Christmas Auction will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The kitchen will be open. The auctioneer is Don McKuhn. For information, call Lisa Johnson at (814) 436-7623.

Christmas services

Praise Fellowship Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 9 p.m. December 24. The full-production service will include drama, special music, and candle lighting.

The church will also hold a service on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.

Tuesday afternoon at the Allegheny Community Center, Diane Callahan came in first followed by JoAnn Hultquist.  At the Woman’s Club Thursday afternoon, Nan Cashman and Donna Holding placed first and second.  Connie Lucia and Joanne Massa were first and second Thursday evening at the library.

ReStore donations

Habitat for Humanity of Warren County’s ReStore is now operating from the basement of Second Avenue Exchange in Warren. Habitat will continue to accept donations at that location on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 10am to noon. The next dropoff dates are December 10 and January 14. No donations will be accepted outside of those hours. Habitat reserves the right to deny any item based on its potential resale value and / or usefulness to the organization. Items Habitat accepts can be found at a hardware or home improvement store and should be completely functional. Questions should be directed to info@habitatwarrenpa.org or (814) 688-8671.

Holden Evening Prayer

Holden Evening Prayer will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at First Lutheran Church, located at 109 W. 3rd Ave, Warren.  This wonderful service is a long-time community favorite and will be held each Wednesday during the season of Advent.  All are welcome.

PARSE Christmas Party

The Barton-Schuler chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees will gather for its annual Christmas Party at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Variety Buffet at the Warren Commons. Photo submitted to Times Observer A group of ladies at the First United Methodist Church in Warren are busy baking cookies this week for the annual Cookie Walk at the church at 200 Market Street. There will be thousands of homemade Christmas cookies available for sale at the church from 9 a.m. to noon (or until gone) on Saturday, Dec. 10. Also, a jewelry shop and slightly used Christmas ornaments will be available for purchase at this popular affair. All are welcome. The quartet sang a variety of barbershop-style songs including old-time tunes, love songs, patriotic, and 60's music. The ladies are also members of the lady barbershop singers group, Chautauqua Shores Chorus. The group meets for practice Monday evenings at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 358 E.
