Hill & Dale gardeners hold Annual Flower Show and luncheon

The Hill & Dale Garden Club Annual Flower Show and luncheon was held on June 22 at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Ed Building.

Many beautiful plants and arrangements were entered, with Carol Eckert winning Best of Show.

The meeting was opened by President Eleanor Johnson, with devotions and prayer by Linda Feather.

A delicious lunch was enjoyed by all, committee was Ruth Ann DeVore, Eleanor Johnson, Lila Myer, Priscilla Spencer, and Ann Hernandez.

There were four sections for different types of flowers and plants. Section 1: Flowering plants; Section 2: Foliage plants; Section 3: Cut blossoms; and Section 4: Container Grown plants. The judges for show were Sally Asbury, Master Gardener, and Donna Pierce, a Horticulturalist.

Secretary’s report was read by Peg Stino and Treasurer’s report by Carol Eckert.

Eleanor Johnson thanked Debra Robeson and Audrey Cable for helping with the Northern Area Planters.

The Rouse Garden Therapy was done on June 6, and enjoyed by many of the residents.

There is a need to start planning the exhibit for the Warren County Fair, with the theme this year, “Damsels and Dragonflies.”

Barb Gourley did a great program on “Glass Lawn Ornaments” made with some glassware, vases, plates, candy dishes, whatever we can find to make them.

Special glue is needed as these actually are put into our flower beds, she had many beautiful things to show us.

The July 27 meeting will be a field trip to Wattsburg – Lilies of the Field, where there are 22 named gardens to see. The club will carpool at 10 a.m. from Sugar Grove Park, go to Gi-Gi’s in Corry for lunch, then on to Wattsburg.
