Dinner benefit

Hessel Valley Lutheran Church located in Chandlers Valley on Hessel Valley Road, invites you to join us for our Spaghetti Dinner Thursday, April 28, 2016 4:30 – 6:30. There is no charge for the meal, but donations will be accepted, with all monies collected donated to Warren County House of Hope.

The House of Hope of Warren County operates a 10-bed transitional residence for women who are released from prison for addiction-related offenses. For more information please visit their website at herhouseofhope.com

Bridge scores

Tuesday afternoon at the Allegheny Community Center, Connie Michell came in first followed by Lynda McCollough. Patty Baker and Carol Lake placed first and second Thursday afternoon at the Woman’s Club. Thursday evening at the library, Connie Michell and Susan Swab were first and second.

Garden club to meet

The Hill & Dale Garden Club of Sugar Grove, Lottsville, Lander and Russell area will meet @ the Lottsville United Methodist church, 71 Lottsville-Niobe Road, Lottsville, on Wednesday, April 27 at 12:30 p.m. The program will be Propagating Plants by Lucy Masterson. Hostesses are Ruth Ann DeVore, Barb Alexander, Linda Feather, Donna Pierce, Muriel Redick and Willa Rupczyk. Visitors are always welcome.

Cemetery association to meet

The spring meeting of the Hale Cemetery Association will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday May 3. The meeting will be held in the home of Gary and Elaine North, 740 Cable Hollow Road, Akeley. Lot owners and family of those buried in the Hale Cemetery are invited to attend. Call 757-4361 for further information.

Bridge replacement plans

The Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners will display plans for a Rapid Bridge Replacement Project over Four Mile Run on Route 6 at the Sheffield Township building, 20 Leather Street in Sheffield. The display will be available for public viewing weekdays from Monday, April 18, to Monday, May 2 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The bridge will be replaced in the fall of 2017.

School benefit

Sheffield Area Elementary School will hold a Spring Craft and Vendor Show, featuring over 35 vendors, on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sheffield Area Middle High School.

Crafts and foods will include jewelry, pet treats, woodworks, chocolates, baked goods, solar lights, fish flies and more.

There will be a Chinese auction, snacks and drinks, and admission is free.

Class lunch

The Warren High school Class of 1946 will meet for lunch at noon on Tuesday, April 19 at the Conewango Club. For reservations or questions, call 726-5649.

The women of the Warren High School Class of 1948 will meet for lunch at the Allegheny Community Center on Clark Street at noon on Thursday, April 14.

WAHS 1965 class lunch will be at the Warren Pizza Hut, April 13, at 11:30. It is buffet day. Plans for the August 2016 picnic will be discussed. Any questions please call 726-3665.

Reunion meeting

There will be a Youngsville High School Class of 1966 Reunion organizational meeting at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Huey’s in Youngsville.

K of C meeting

The Knights of Columbus will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the Clubhouse on Route 62 in North Warren. All members are invited to attend.

Outdoor club

On Wednesday, April 13, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will ride bikes on the bike path at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, N.Y. Participants will meet at the Jamestown Park-N-Ride at 10:00 a.m. or at the trailhead by the tennis courts at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be at the Beef-N-Barrel in Olean. On Sunday, April 17, the AOC will hike 3.6 miles on the North Country Trail from Rte. 948 to Henrys Mills. This will be a shuttle hike. Participants will meet at Howe’s True Value at 1:30 p.m. For more information call Earl Ross at (814) 726-3920.

Bingo bus

Sheffield VFD is going to start running a bus on Wednesday to Bingo. Steve Brink will be running the green bus starting out at their garage the old car wash on April 13. It will depart North Warren at 4:30 p.m. and proceed to Thorne’s Market Place and pick up people at the back corner by the Recruiting Office. It will leave there at 4:45. It will then proceed to Warren Shurfine in the far back corner and depart there at 5 p.m. There will be a donation box on the bus if you would like to make a donation to help cover the cost of the fuel for the bus.

Shoe drive

The House of Hope (herhouseofhope.com), Hazel St., Warren, is beginning a gently-used shoe drive on April 24. Its goal is to collect 7,500 pair of shoes of any size (excluding roller blades and ice skates) to realize much-needed funds to sustain the House of Hope and to aid in the jail ministry.

Boy Scout Troop 14, Cub Scout Pack 14, and Cub Scout Pack 13 will be assisting efforts by distributing bags and literature on Saturday April 30, and picking up on the following Saturday.

Final destination of these shoes is a country such as Haiti, Ghana, and many others. A micro-business will be set up to bolster their economy and help individuals in need. All in all, everyone wins.

The committee is meeting at the House of Hope at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 13.

ReStore donations

Habitat for Humanity of Warren County will now be accepting ReStore donations on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 9:30AM until 11:30AM. The next scheduled drop-offs are April 23rd and May 14th. The dropoff location is 1101 Pennsylvania Avenue East, Warren. Habitat is looking for small appliances, tools, and other household construction items that can be resold and reused. In addition to a drop-off, offers will be entertained on existing inventory. All items donated are tax-deductible.

Class breakfast

The Youngsville High School Class of 1961 will hold a breakfast get-together at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 13, at Richard’s Restaurant in Youngsville. The class will also be discussing its 55th reunion dinner at Jackson Valley on August 27.

The first meeting of 2016 of the Barton-Schuler chapter of Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Perkins Restaurant in Warren. Jim Decker from WCCBI will speak on tourism in our area. Lunch will be at 12:30 p.m.
