Youngsville to revitalize with Hometown Heroes banners

The Revitalization Of Youngsville Association met on Monday, December 14, at Joanne Oviatt’s home for a luncheon meeting to discuss Area Hometown Heroes Banners. Shown in the photo are R.O.Y. members Ellie Dunn, Kari Degnan, Troy Clawson, Nancy Holmberg, and Joanne Oviatt.

The Hometown Heroes Banner Project, recommended in Youngsville’s Community Work Plan composed by the Pennsylvania Rt. 6 Alliance, is where banners can be purchased by family members, businesses, organizations and through fundraisers to honor past and present champions who have contributed to the Youngsville Area.

The banners will serve as a reminder of Warren Country’s history and what the Youngsville Area has contributed to our Nation. Each banner will be unique and honor a specific Youngsville Area historical or military service person; it will include his/her photo, name, branch of service and era of service or their historical significance.

One suggestion was that a guide book be placed at various locations, such as the Wilder Museum, the Visitor’s Center, and the Library, with brief stories of each hero. In this way, those following the banner tour could be informed about the heroes who influenced our area. “It’s the stories that make history interesting,” said Joanne Oviatt. “The banners will show that the memories of those who have contributed to our county will live on forever.”

The proposed route for the banners is to display them on street poles along Railroad Street, down Old Route 6, which is Main Street, to the Wilder Museum of Warren County History located in Irvine. Because it commemorates the history of our area the hope is that it will stimulate tourism.

The next meeting of the committee will be in February with plans to gather input from several service organizations such as the Rouse Estate, American Legion, Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary and others who are proud to have contributed to the well-being of the Youngsville Area.
