Warren Public Library hosts free income tax workshop
The Warren Public Library will be host to James Embry of Kersey & Associates, PC.
He will be teaching a free tax information workshop regarding this year’s changes in tax laws and forms from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m Monday, Feb 11.
This free tax information workshop will be targeted towards individuals with less complicated tax returns that are concerned about the new tax law and how it will specifically be affecting their taxes this year. Some concerns, such as itemized versus standard deduction and withholding from paychecks will be covered in the workshop.
The new tax laws changed the standard deduction this tax season, “basically doubling it, and a lot of folks don’t know about that and how it will affect them,” said James Embry.
He continued on to say that this workshop is for “folks that maybe have done their tax returns on their own for a number of years and feel that the complexity of the new tax law may be too much for them to handle.”
He encourages participants to bring their questions with them to the workshop. Embry will be providing handouts and presenting a powerpoint as well.
Embry emphasized that “folks are talking about taxes and they think it’s boring, but this will be an exciting opportunity for those who want to learn more (about taxes) and who want to be more involved in their tax returns.”
The Warren public library offers tax forms for those who would like to file paper forms. Additionally, their computers run on a secure network and are available to members of the public who are working on filing taxes themselves this season.
