Dr. Doris Gernovich, Board President, of the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit, has announced the appointment of Dean C. Maynard Ed.D. as its new Executive Director. Dr. Maynard will assume responsibilities on March 23, 2017.

Dr. Maynard has been part of the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit Administrative Team for eight years, beginning as the Assistant Executive Director before being promoted to the Executive Director position

“I have worked over the past eight years to make the Intermediate Unit a regional resource for our member districts and will continue to lead in that direction. In these challenging times, the IU has become a stronger partner of the Pennsylvania Department of Education as well as the local universities and other community agencies and it is with great promise that we look forward to what the future will bring to the learning communities in the tri-county region. As a service agency, the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit, working collaboratively with school leaders in the region, will be more ready and more prepared to assist educators, students and families as together we put learning first and work every day to prepare all students for the ever-changing world of work and the everyday challenges that our young people are facing today. I want to thank the board of directors for the opportunity to lead IU5.” Dr. Maynard is a native of the northwest region having been raised in the Spartansburg area. He started his teaching career with the Corry Area School District, where he was then promoted to Principal and as a Supervisor of Elementary Education. His career path led him to Girard School District where he was appointed as Superintendent, later moving to Millcreek Township School District in the same capacity. Dr. Maynard became the Assistant Executive Director at the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit in 2008. He has also been an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development. Since 2006 he has served as the PASCD State Legislative Influence Chairman. In 2015 he received the Robert Flynn Award for Excellence in Service from PASCD. Dr. Maynard has traveled to China and South Africa on educational trips and locally he has served on many boards. Currently he is active with the Therapeutic Riding and Equestrian Center and Touch Stone Solutions, Inc. He has actively contributed to his community in many capacities as a 4H Leader, Race director, and Fair director.
