Shooting in Crawford County under review

An investigation is underway in the wake of an officer-involved shooting in Crawford County early Thursday morning.

According to Meadville-based Pennsylvania State Police, troopers responded to a Gospel Hill Road residence in Cussewago township for a report of a domestic disturbance at 2:35 a.m.

“Upon arrival at the residence, the suspect barricaded himself within the residence and threatened to harm members of his family,” police said in a Friday morning statement.

Troopers identified the victim only as a known 24-year-old male of Saegertown.

“Troopers secured the perimeter around the residence and were in the process of securing a mental health warrant,” the statement indicates. “The suspect later exited the residence with a firearm. Troopers on scene discharged their weapons at the suspect” who was transported to UPMC Hamot for treatment.

The troopers involved were not injured and were “placed on administrative leave per Pennsylvania State Police Department policies.

“The Troop E Major Case Team has been activated to investigate,” according to police. The investigation is ongoing with concurrence of the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office.”

A Friday afternoon from state police stated that the Crawford County District Attorney “advised that a charging decision will not be made until the entire investigation is completed and thoroughly reviewed.”
